Meet Eve, Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern

If you are reading this, chances are you or someone you love is feeling overwhelmed. Are you struggling under the weight of anxiety, depression, or trauma? Maybe, your family relationships are strained; or have you hit a wall and don’t know how to move forward? Whatever you are going through, I believe you have the resources within you to regain, or discover for the first time, your true identity and experience a fulfilling and happier life.

As your counselor, I will join you on an expedition of your life. On this journey, we will unearth the pathways where you lost your way and remove the blocks that have kept you from moving forward. Along the way, we will discover hidden sources of peace and strength that will empower you to live well, and stand strong against future challenges.

My Approach

Our hardships and mistakes don’t define who we are or what we will accomplish in life. Instead, we can use these adversities as powerful catalysts, creating opportunities for positive transformation. During your time in counseling, we will:

  • Create a plan that brings your symptoms under control.
  • Explore the causes of your distress.
  • Eliminate the sources of your pain and frustration.
  • Celebrate your hard work, determination, and success!

The plan we create for you will be unique, just like you. I don’t prescribe to rigid procedures or a “one size fits all” therapy. I use an individualized and holistic approach to counseling, supporting you – spirit, soul, & body.   And, based on your needs and preferences, I will use strategies and techniques from several therapeutic approaches:

  • EMDR and Emotional Freedom Technique
  • DNMS (Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy)
  • Family Systems and Attachment Based Therapies
  • Psychodynamic Therapy
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Life Coaching and Motivational Interviewing

Areas of Specialization

  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Depression
  • PTSD/Trauma
  • Family Counseling/Parenting
  • Life Transitions/Adjustment Disorders
  • School-Related Challenges
  • Christian Counseling

Background and Education

My own childhood was a difficult one filled with adversity, and for a while my past held me back from the life I desperately wanted. As I looked at my life and the lives of family and friends, I wondered why do some of us overcome, while others are overcome?  It was my desire to understand and harness this potential to heal and live well, that compelled me to begin seeing my own counselor and ultimately explore a career in counseling.

I earned a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Barry University while teaching fulltime and raising three children. During my training, I recognized that although addressing our symptoms is a good place to begin healing, lasting results come from working on the sources of our distress. Focusing just on the symptoms is like pulling off only the top of a weed: given time, it will grow back because the root is still alive and well. In therapy, when we remove the root of our distress, we are then free to move forward with more resilience and enjoy opportunities for better health, satisfying relationships, and personal success.

With over 20 years of experience in public and private schools, I’ve had the opportunity to help many families navigate school-related and parenting issues. I genuinely enjoy empowering students as they gain the skills, strategies, and confidence they need to succeed in school. Likewise, helping families improve their relationships and simplify daily living is extremely rewarding. I honor each family’s unique story and look forward to partnering with them during these turning points.
