Don’t take A Summer Vacation From Your Self-Esteem

When it comes to mental health, we often make the most progress when we are in our normal routines. So when summer break comes around, it’s easy to get caught up in vacations, sleeping in, and just taking a break! But this summer, don’t put your self-esteem on the back burner.

Here are three tips on how to maintain positive self-worth these next few months.

1. Get into a routine of affirmations and positive self-talk. Even if your day is not routine, find time each day to focus on the positives. You can read an encouraging self-help book in the morning; or have a positive self-talk conversation during your alone time in your car. Whatever works for you, do it and do it daily.

2. Do things that make you happy this summer. Focus on self-love and self-care. Use your free time to indulge in things that will build up your sense of self and self-esteem. Since you have more free time, there’s really no excuse not to focus on you.

3. Do not compare yourself to others. Let’s be honest, summer makes us insecure. The beach, the pool, the lake…all of these call for one thing, a bathing suit. And that is the most intimidating piece of clothing anyone could wear. While it’s easy to look around and compare yourself to others. Try to think rational thoughts and remember that everybody is unique and different. Wear a swim suit that you’re comfortable in and your confidence will shine through.

4. Find a support system. Whether it’s your friends, a counselor, or a support group. Do whatever is necessary to have accountability and people that you can relate to in the process.

Don’t use summer as an excuse to lose sight of your goals, but rather, use summer as an excuse to become a better, healthier YOU!
